A. Insurance.com: What we do and what we don't do

  • Insurance.com, Inc. and its affiliates (collectively,“ICOM”), through our proprietary insurance quoting platform (“Platform”), seek to provide valuable information which you may use to make your own decisions about purchasing an insurance policy. ICOM provides general insurance information from respected independent sources and estimated insurance quotes from a wide range of leading insurance companies. When consumers request insurance coverage, we can start an auto insurance policy on the ICOM Website, by phone through a licensed agent in our Sales Center, or through referrals to insurance companies and their agents.
  • Insurance.com does not provide tax or financial advice. If you would like this type of personal advice, please consult an independent financial advisor.
  • While Insurance.com acts as an agent and representative of insurance companies who participate on our Platform, we do not charge you anything for the comparison quote service. As part of our offering, we may also provide services to you on behalf of other third party insurers.
  • Insurance.com does not act as a broker, advisor or representative of any applicant or policyholder. We receive compensation from insurance companies through commissions on the sale of their policies. Our commission is based on the amount of business we place with some insurers and in some cases the profitability of such business. If we refer a consumer to another company or provider, we may receive a referral fee.
  • Insurance companies participating on our Platform only provide insurance rate quotes in selected states. Consumers in a specific state will only receive quotes from insurers who are licensed to provide quotes in that state.

B. Insurance articles, tools and links

  • All information and technology provided on the ICOM Website is intended to assist you in making your own decisions about insurance, but cannot and do not provide personal advice. The technology used on our Platform does not take into account your personal characteristics, such as budget, assets, cost of living, risk tolerance, family situation or activities which may affect the type and amount of insurance that would be right for you. In addition, state insurance laws and insurance company underwriting rules may affect available coverage and its cost. If you need more information, or would like personal advice, please consult a licensed insurance advisor.
  • For your convenience, ICOM may provide links to websites maintained by insurance companies or other unaffiliated third parties. While we try to link to sites that we believe are of high quality, we do not recommend or endorse third party sites and are not responsible for the information, services or products offered on those sites.

C. Getting insurance quotes and requesting coverage

ICOM provides estimated insurance quotes and referral services available through its business arrangements with third party insurance companies and other insurance service providers:

  • Insurance.com Insurance Agency, Inc. and ComparisonMarket Insurance Agency, Inc.* are licensed to provide auto insurance quotes in the states noted below. Purchase requests are handled by Insurance.com Insurance Agency or directly by the insurance carrier you select.
  • When you request a quote for home, health, life or other insurance products for which we are not licensed, third party insurance service providers may request information about specific insurance policies and prices from a number of insurance companies. While ICOM believes the information provided by third party insurance companies and insurance service providers is reliable, ICOM does not verify the accuracy of such information.
  • Insurance quotes provided through ICOM’s Website are not firm quotes or offers, but are estimates based on information provided or publicly available from participating insurance companies and based on the information supplied by you. The rates are only as accurate as the information you provide. Insurance rates and policies described may not be available to you due to restrictive state laws, a lack of underwriting approval by the insurance company, or other factors. Policy terms and descriptions shown on the ICOM Website are summaries only, and are subject to the complete insurance policy terms and conditions. Please read your insurance policy and address any questions to the insurance company providing your policy.
  • Please read our Privacy Policy to understand how your personal information is used. ICOM and insurance carriers who participate on our Platform request certain personal information in order to provide accurate insurance premium quotes. By using the ICOM Website, you have no obligation to purchase any insurance policy. If you do wish to purchase an insurance policy, you may make a purchase request by following the instructions provided on the ICOM Website or from a licensed agent in our Sales Center.
  • In some cases, your insurance policy purchase request and the information you provide will be forwarded to a licensed insurance agent or insurance company, who may contact you to obtain further information or confirmation. You may also decline coverage at that time.

ICOM is not responsible for the conduct of unaffiliated insurance companies or their agents. We would, however, welcome any comments about your experience.

D. Applications for insurance

  • Any application for insurance reflects only the information recorded in our system from the agencies and companies we work with. Accordingly, your application may not reflect certain telephone or email communications, and will not reflect any communications with agencies not participating on ICOM’s Website.
  • Information about insurance applications and/or coverage, including, but not limited to, summaries of insurance policy information, may be incomplete, inadvertently miskeyed, or amended or superseded by more recent agreements, claims or other events. Please refer to your original insurance policy contract and check with your agent or insurance company for more recent updates to your policy before renewing, canceling, filing a claim or taking any other actions with respect to any insurance policy.
