How to protect your vehicle from theft
While many tips for preventing theft are common sense, they bear repeating.
- Make sure you remove your keys from the ignition and never leave your car running
- Lock your doors and close your windows
- Park in a well-lit area or in a secured area or garage
- Install security devices
What type of insurance covers your car for theft?
To have coverage if your car is stolen, you need to carry comprehensive insurance. Also called other-than-collision, this coverage is an option but will be required if you have a loan or lease.
Comprehensive insurance is usually sold along with collision and can be very affordable. However, you might pay more for car insurance if your car makes the NICB’s Hot Wheels list.
