Collision: Pays for damage to your own car due to a crash, such as hitting another car or a fence. It is an optional coverage.
Comprehensive: Pays for damage to your own car due to non-crash problems, such as vandalism, hitting an animal or an object falling on your car. Comprehensive coverage also pays out for car theft. It is an optional coverage.
